New Jute Bill 2016 placed before parliament to replace old bill

Minister of State Mirza Azam placed the draft law of new Jute Bill 2016 in parliament for endorsement and replacing Bangladesh’s 54 year old jute law on behalf of Minister of Textiles and Jute Imazuddin Pramanik on Wednesday.

It has been referred to the house committee on the textile and jute ministry for review.

The government will be able to create a fund for the improvement of jute and jute products according to the new proposed law.

The new proposed law will empower government to collect data on the purchase and sale of any special product manufactured from jute fibre.

The government will also be able to seek details of production, stock, purchase, sale and returns from individuals and establishment connected with jute business.

As per the 1962 ordinance for any violation of the law provided three years’ imprisonment while the new proposed bill add a fine of Tk 100,000 to the prison term.
