Coffee brand, Nespresso is collaborating with zero-waste fashion start-up Zèta to produce Re:Ground, a shoe made from recycled coffee grounds.

The Re:Ground capsule line of shoes is made up of 80% recycled and repurposed materials, including Nespresso coffee grounds. Each pair includes 12 cups of coffee grounds from Nespresso's capsule recycling program, which have been incorporated into the vegan leather uppers and soles of the shoes.

Zèta collaborated with Tintex, its fabric manufacturer, to develop the revolutionary coffee fake leather, which is available in three colors: latte, cappuccino, and ristretto.

The capsule collection is created in a family factory in Portugal and is exclusively accessible to clients in Europe until June 10 for 155 euros to "keep a short product circuit."

Laure Babin, chief executive of Zèta, said that her ambition for Zèta was to make attractive sneakers for eco-conscious fashion enthusiasts. Tintex's fabric designers spent eight months crafting a unique vegan fake leather derived from recycled coffee grounds for this capsule collection. Re:Ground is the physical manifestation of their cooperation with Nespresso — a smart and fashionable sneaker that honors the value of coffee and the virtue of circularity.

Following a successful crowdfunding effort, Zèta was formed in September 2020 to promote zero-waste shoes made entirely of recycled, vegan, and recyclable materials. The footwear firm distributes 11 styles online and through a network of 12 stores across Europe.
