Natuzzi and ByBorre come together for a new sustainable collection

Italian furnishing company Natuzzi partners with a Dutch textile innovator Borre Akkersdijk to create a Mediterranean-inspired textile upholstery collection with a sustainable approach.

Natuzzi and Borre met in Milan in 2019, shared their visions, ideas & concepts and launched their collection “water”.

Borre is a FIT graduate and has been leading a textile innovation company ByBorre since 2010. He caters to the sports sector, clothing, accessories, and experiments with intelligent and innovative textiles and has partnered with automobile and luxury sectors.

Natuzzi says leather has been one of the most important materials for the brand, it stands for the traditional significance and DNA but he also believes in a way that their tradition and innovation can go hand-in-hand.

The Mediterranean inspired collection is all about the origin of Natuzzi and is developed from the feel of the sky over the Mediterranean region and sea bed in black and white color. The textured fabric resembles the same feel in it

The graphically developed textured fabric exhibits the movement of waves, which has been managed to achieve by both traditional knitting techniques and new technology. Akkersdijk calls the textile a “landscape” created by a yarn made from quality wool and recycled PES. The fabric is also more durable than their traditionally used leather. The Water collection is the first step of this long term traditional and innovative project.
