The Ministry of Textiles, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Make in India’, has organised a two-day national workshop in Surat today. The workshop is aimed to help Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP) more effective.
SITP wants to fill infrastructure gap in the textiles and apparel industry. It seeks to do this by encouraging the industry to set up greenfield industrial parks with partial capital grant support from the ministry.
The two-day programme will feature experience sharing by SPVs of successful textile parks and representatives of state governments on successful interventions by states.
The workshop will help identify and share best practices in implementation of the scheme, identify areas of improvement and discussing strategy to incorporate such improvements in design and implementation of the scheme and providing opportunity to state governments to understand the benefit of the scheme in promoting textile ecosystem in their states.
The workshop will facilitate the participants to interact with local industry of Surat and visit successful textile parks. Participants will also deliberate on the critical success factors for SITP, such as financing of parks, state government support, technological advancement and skill development initiatives.
Thirty textile parks approved under SITP are already functional out of the total 70. Rest is at different stages of implementation. Once all these parks are fully operational, it will not only expected to generate employment for about 4,36,000 persons but also attract investment to the tune of Rs 30,000 crores.
Multi-stakeholders including central government, state government, special purpose vehicles (SPVs) of the parks approved under SITP, banks and financial institutions, industry associations, textile research associations and project management consultants are participated in the consultation workshop.
