Namshi, the Middle Eastern online fashion retailer has become the first in the region to join the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC). The company has also announced a series of sustainable and social responsibility initiatives.
Had Badri, the chairman at Namshi stated that the new measures included promoting sustainable choices on its platform to support brands and help consumers shop more responsibly.
The company aims to switch to using locally sourced and recycled materials for packaging and were already moving towards its delivery fleet to hybrid vehicles to reduce emissions.
Badri stated that they were excited to be the first Middle East retailer to become a part of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), which is the world’s leading alliance for sustainable supply chains in fashion and footwear. He added that their partnership with SAC would give them the tools to benchmark their performance on key sustainability measures and raise-the-bar on their operations for the benefit of their customers and the community.
Badri stated that their purpose at Namshi was to have a positive and meaningful impact on their communities. He added that they took their leadership role in Middle East fashion and beauty e-commerce seriously, and they sincerely hope that their step will inspire other retailers in the region to join them to embrace the positive change.
Namshi joins more than 250 global brands, retailers, and manufacturers, as well as government, non-profit environmental organisations, and academic institutions.
Amina Razvi, the Executive Director at SAC, stated that they welcome the addition of Namshi to the Sustainable Apparel Coalition and look forward to its participation in this industry-wide effort in sustainability. She added that adding Namshi to the SAC only widened the scope of their impact within the industry and accelerates the change they have been making towards responsible industry actions.
