Mohawk Industries Inc.. the Calhoun Ga – based flooring manufacturers plans realignment of its yarn operations in northwest Georgia in order to better leverage its investments in manufacturing equipment and technology.
In August, the business will reassign production at one of the Mohawk’s older yarn facilities in Chatsworth, Ga., to other northwest Georgia locations, a more modernized sites.
Mohawk’s recent investments in fiber and yarn manufacturing support increased demand for carpet and rugs made from its bio-based SmartStrand triexta and Continuum polyester fibers.
This operational restructuring will yield improved productivity and allow them to meet expanding yarn demand with greater efficiency.
Joey Faircloth, Mohawk’s senior vice president of manufacturing and operations said that Mohawk has consistently re-invested in the business to improve quality, productivity and safety.
In order to fully realize the value of those investments in yarn manufacturing, they are transitioning production to locations where the facilities have been significantly upgraded.
Mohawk produces floor covering products for residential and commercial applications in North America and residential applications in Europe. The company employs 32,500 in operations in Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Europe, India, Malaysia, Mexico, Russia and the United States.
