Miu Miu debuted its first-ever collaboration with the American clothing brand Levi's. The Miu Miu Upcycled range consists of pre-owned denim that has been revamped with the Italian label's playful use of embellishment and color.
The focus of the range is on the retro “Made in USA” men's 501 jeans and Trucker jackets from the 1980s and 1990s that have been restyled for women. The designs are a play on "masculinity and femininity," according to Miu Miu, and they tap into the growing demand for regal adornments and glamour. There are no two items of the set that are alike.
The retro denim is hand-embellished with Miu Miu floral, crystal, pearl, and all-over diamanté embroideries that are "instantly identifiable." Jeans are elevated with bold leather patches incorporating Art Deco-inspired intarsia motifs, and Trucker jackets are elevated with on-trend puffed sleeves. Some jeans feature ivory silk Duchesse turn-ups, while jackets feature exaggerated white lace collars.
Each piece is finished with a Miu Miu signature pink backpatch. A specially commissioned Miu Miu carrier bag stamped with Levi's logo completes the look.
The campaign for the collection, which will debut in mid-May, features Miu Miu "muses" actor Emma Corrin and models Lila Moss and Georgia Palmer. It will be available first at Selfridges in London and IAPM in Shanghai. The collection will then be sold at Dover Street Market in Los Angeles, 18 Miu Miu stores around the world, and on miumiu.com.
Last year, Miu Miu launched the first Upcycled by Miu Miu range, which featured 80 reworked retro dresses from the 1930s to the 1980s. Miu Miu embroideries and embellishments were used to complete the restored skirts.
