Mimaki launches eco-friendly textile printing system

Mimaki USA has launched TRAPIS, a new digital transfer sublimation printing system that significantly reduces wastewater in textile production, cutting up to 90% compared to traditional methods. Unlike conventional systems, TRAPIS doesn’t need wastewater treatment facilities and can be set up in small spaces like offices or studios.

TRAPIS, short for “Transfer Pigment System,” includes a Mimaki inkjet printer, special transfer paper, and a transfer unit from Klieverik or Monti Antonio. It works by transferring designs from paper to fabric using heat, creating minimal wastewater—mostly from the printer’s maintenance function. Overall, it reduces wastewater by around 90% compared to other digital dyeing methods.

Since TRAPIS doesn’t require extensive space or complex setups, it’s suitable for small locations like stores or design offices. Its straightforward process means anyone can operate it without specialized knowledge, making it accessible to various businesses. TRAPIS can print on a wide range of textiles with just one type of ink, catering to the growing demand for sustainable textile printing.
