Textile manufacturer MGC, which is a joint venture between UK-based Carrington Textiles and Portugal-based Acabamentos Texteis SA (TMG), has acquired Germany’s Melchior Textil.
According to Carrington, the new structure will provide customers with a wider choice of fabrics under one roof. This acquisition is hoped to strengthen the position of all group companies in Europe, with a particular focus on the DACH and Central European markets.
Melchior Textil is hoped to benefit from a solid and sustainable production base, while MGC secures long-term plant utilisation through strategic forward integration.
Both brands, Carrington and Melchior, will retain their own identity and brand positioning and receiv group support for their respective business models.
MGC - Acabamentos Têxteis (the full name of the Carrington and TMG venture) manufactures 18 million metres of fabric per year in Portugal. Adding this to Carrington’s current production capacity of 32 million metres in Europe totals more than 50 million metres annually.
Melchior is a workwear textile supplier for industrial, government, trade, commercial and healthcare end users. Product ranges include laundry textiles in various compositions, environmentally-friendly products and a collection of stretch fabrics.
“Melchior has been an obvious choice of partner for us given their reputation in the workwear textile market,” said John Vareldzis, director of MGC and CEO of Carrington. “We have been evaluating the possibility of cementing our relationship with Melchior for some time and this will be strategically advantageous for our future.”
