Matter, Paradise Textiles collaborate to combat microfibre pollution

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2024-09-30 15:40:53 – Singapore

British climate tech company Matter and Paradise Textiles, part of the Alpine Group, have announced a groundbreaking partnership to introduce the world’s first microfibre filter, Regen.™ for textile production, designed for textile manufacturers. This innovation aims to tackle global microfibre pollution, a major issue caused by textile production processes.

Regen.™ efficiently removes microfibres from wastewater using Matter’s patented self-cleaning filtration technology. It reduces energy consumption, chemical usage, and operational costs while extending the life of water reuse systems. A single textile manufacturing site equipped with this technology could save 3 million kilowatt-hours annually and capture over 90 tonnes of microfibres, leading to a significant reduction in carbon emissions.

The project will be showcased at Paradise Textiles’ low-impact fabric mill in Egypt by Q4 2025. This initiative aligns with global efforts to curb textile pollution, which contributes to 20% of the world’s clean water contamination. Microfibres are a significant source of microplastic pollution, which poses health risks to humans and affects ecosystems.

Paradise Textiles, a major textile producer working with brands like The North Face, Lululemon, and Puma, proactively collaborated with Matter to advance this solution. Over the past 2.5 years, they have contributed to research, helping shape Matter’s Microfibre Assessment Program (MAP) to maximize fibre capture across their facilities.
