Ambercycle x MAS Holdings
Sri Lanka-based clothing manufacturer MAS Holdings has signed a three-year supply agreement with US-based materials science company Ambercycle to use its recycled polyester material, Cycora.
Ambercycle’s co-founder and CEO, Shay Sethi, emphasized the importance of supply-chain partners in decarbonizing fashion and reducing the environmental impact of raw-material extraction. MAS is the first apparel manufacturer to establish an offtake agreement with Ambercycle, aiming to commercialize circular polyester and reduce the use of virgin polyester in the apparel industry.
The agreement allows MAS to reserve capacity for Ambercycle’s Cycora material, helping the recycled fiber producer to scale up production rapidly. In February 2024, the European Centre for Innovative Textiles in France recognized Cycora as a circular alternative that meets the spinnability standards of virgin materials and outperforms other recycled materials.
This deal aligns with MAS’ broader ambition to produce more sustainable products under its ‘Plan for Change’ initiative, aiming to source half of its revenue from sustainable products by 2025. MAS’ Director of Group Sustainable Business, Nemanthie Kooragamage, stated that the collaboration marks an important milestone for achieving circularity at scale in the industry.
Kooragamage added, “Together with Ambercycle, MAS is enabling better access to regenerated next-gen material for our customer partners. This allows brands to meet the growing demand from consumers for sustainable apparel while creating a positive environmental impact. The partnership highlights how manufacturers are key to adopting material solutions, and we are excited to offer Ambercycle’s technology for brand adoption.”
Sethi further commented, “Supply-chain partners are essential in advancing our efforts to decarbonize fashion and reduce the impact of raw-material extraction. We’re pleased to collaborate with MAS, one of the leading manufacturing partners in the global apparel ecosystem. Together, we are committed to diverting textiles from landfills and pioneering circularity at scale.”
