Maison Atia is launching eco-rainwear

Chloe Mendel and Gustave Maisonrouge, the founders of Maison Atia, the first luxury faux fur brand are branching out into eco-rainwear.

The modern luxury faux fur brand put a spin on the classic trench and accessories, inspired by the ’60s mod aesthetic of Yves Saint Laurent and Courrèges.

According to Mendel, the capsule is a swatch of polka dots and florals cast over bold colors, to inspire greater excitement for individuals trapped in the rain.

Videoing in from Chicago, Mendel added that even the coat linings are deliberate and infuse deeper meaning. She re-created a particular polka dot lining in one trench from a previous series, drawing inspiration from “the wonderful jackets my mother would wear growing up. Maisonatia.com sells raincoats in four hues and three sizes for $480.

Maison Atia is incorporating more sustainable materials into its material mix, such as plant-based, upcycled, and deadstock fabrics. The raincoats are constructed entirely of polyester fabric derived from recycled water bottles.

Koba, a largely bio-based faux fur produced by Dupont and Ecopel, is also used by the firm, of which Stella McCartney is also a fan. The material is a blend of recycled polyester and 37% Sorona fiber bio-engineered from crops and sugar, and it has a number of certifications, including those from Oeko-Tex and the USDA.

Maison Atia employs a zero-waste and local production strategy, with the coats being created by legendary ateliers in New York City, despite the fact that the brand does not yet have an end-of-life program for its goods. Raincoat offcuts are transformed into matching rain bonnets and hats in the current capsule, demonstrating this zero-waste flare.

The brand is also known for its charitable giving. Each coat purchased, like in previous collections, contributes to Paws Chicago’s animal rescue operations, a no-kill shelter close to Mendel’s heart.
