MAEDEN introduces innovative elastic wires for smart clothing

MAEDEN, based in Taiwan, specializes in manufacturing conductors, tinsel wires, and cables for smart clothing and mobile devices, using diverse materials and constructions. Notably, the company has developed an elastic wire that can endure water exposure and stretching without compromising its resistance, addressing challenges in smart clothing and devices.

In the realm of smart clothing, manufacturers faced challenges in ensuring consistent signal transmission during human movement and garment washing. Products with vibrational haptic feedback, like VR or gloves, encountered similar issues, risking malfunction if conductors couldn’t endure vibrations or stretching. MAEDEN has refined elastic wires in clothing to withstand water exposure and stretching while ensuring user comfort and aesthetic appeal.

MAEDEN’s ultra-fine elastic conductors, with a diameter of around 0.2mm and a resistance of 6.5 ohms/meter, can stretch up to 50%, maintaining their original length. The successful deployment of these elastic conductors in smart apparel has been notable in various customer applications, including their use in MRI garments showcased at Purdue University.

Beyond smart apparel, MAEDEN actively engages in research and development in semiconductor technology, robot joints, and robot nerve projects. Their ultra-fine conductors have shown promising results in initial tests, enduring over 10 million bending and twisting cycles without breaking.

The market is experiencing a surge in companies exploring smart apparel applications, from sports to daily wear. These devices encompass health monitoring and assistive technologies, such as physiological monitoring, electrical muscle stimulation (EMS), and body temperature regulation (heating, cooling).
