Madewell launches denim with bluesign® approved ISKO fabrics

Madewell, ISKO, and bluesign® have joined forces for a strategic partnership in a sector of the textile business where sustainability is a major priority. Making use of bluesign® APPROVED ISKO textiles, Madewell developed the first-ever denim style while putting sustainability first in the creation of a pair of women’s denim pants. Today marks the debut of the $138 USD Cali Demi-Boot Jeans on Madewell.com.

The textiles used to make the jeans by ISKO are created in a resource-efficient manner with minimal negative effects on people and the environment. They are colored and finished with chemical products that have received bluesign® APPROVED status. One of the denim ingredient brand’s most popular patented stretch inventions, ISKO’s ReformTM technology, has achieved bluesign® APPROVED certification, which is particularly difficult for a denim mill to do.

This fabric technology has many advantages, including freedom of movement, a sleeker, more streamlined appearance, and an unmatched holding ability that keeps the jeans’ shape and prevents bagging out. Only bluesign® SYSTEM PARTNER manufacturers who satisfy the stringent safety and environmental criteria of the bluesign® CRITERIA, such as ensuring that production sites are safe for employees, reducing CO2e emissions and water consumption, and avoiding hazardous materials in production, among many others, are given the bluesign® APPROVED label.

Daniel Rufenacht, CEO of Bluesign, said that this collaboration, between two of the biggest names in the denim industry, along with their bluesign® System for removing hazardous chemicals and reducing environmental impacts, shows that the solutions to develop a high-quality, more environmentally friendly, and reasonably priced product are scalable within the fashion industry. They are overjoyed to see this partnership come to fruition and anticipate seeing more Madewell items in the future made with bluesign® APPROVED ISKO materials.

Getting the correct certifications becomes a crucial issue, a differentiating and almost defining feature that can advance a company. This is unquestionably true for ISKO, whose dedication to the protection of our planet informs every choice it takes today and in the future. The multinational corporation decided to pursue bluesign®, one of the most difficult sustainability certifications to obtain, with the aim of producing more environmentally friendly products without compromising on utility, quality, or design.

“At ISKO, we think that future-oriented innovation strengthens and advances our sector and raises the value of our alliances. Our accomplishments with bluesign®, in which our partnerships consistently contribute to lessen the impact of the fashion sector on climate change, are proof of this. We have now jointly introduced a world-first sustainable denim innovation to the market with Madewell. We can confidently assert that we will realize our shared vision for a cleaner, safer, and more transparent supply chain since ISKO is a global leader in the sector and has the ability to drive and accelerate change. Fatih Konukoglu is the ISKO’s CEO.

Mr. Fatih Konukoglu – CEO, ISKO, said that at ISKO, believe that future-focused innovation empowers and improves their industry and enhances the value of their partnerships. This is evident in their achievements with bluesign®, in which their collaborations continuously help to lower the fashion industry’s impact on climate change. Now, together with Madewell, they have collectively delivered to the market the world’s first sustainable denim innovation. Being a global leader in the industry, ISKO has the power to drive and accelerate change, so they can confidently say that they will achieve their shared vision for a cleaner, safer, and more transparent supply chain.

Madewell is honored to have introduced a denim product using ISKO fabrics that have received bluesign® approval as the first company in the world. And it’s only one step in the brand’s lofty sustainability ambitions, which include using only sustainable fibers by 2025.
