Madewell, Kaihara Denim partner for innovative denim collection

Madewell recently introduced a new women’s capsule collection made in collaboration with Kaihara Denim. The collection includes four styles featuring artfully faded washes and heritage details inspired by Kaihara Denim’s 130-year history. Madewell expressed that their partnership with Kaihara reflects a genuine appreciation for denim craftsmanship and a strong commitment to tradition and heritage.

Kaihara Denim, located in Fukuyama City, Japan, reports that half of the jeans seen on the streets in Japan are made with their denim fabrics. Globally, they supply fabrics to various brands, including high-end labels and niche denim-focused brands like Nudie Jeans, Edwin, and Levi’s Made in Japan.

The collection features roomy fits and modernized interpretations of classic workwear. Washes play a significant role, with Kaihara’s process resulting in denim that develops a distinctive look over time.

The collection includes oversize carpenter overalls, a relaxed update to one of Madewell’s popular styles. The overalls feature workwear details such as knee patches, cuffable hems, a hammer loop, and slanted front pockets. Additionally, there are ’90s-inspired super wide-leg jeans available in two mid-tone indigo washes.

A cotton chambray shirt in the collection is accentuated with contrasting topstitching and authentic mother of pearl buttons. Madewell also revamped the chore jacket with a collarless design and sporty raglan sleeves, featuring three patch pockets on the front.

Madewell emphasized that each denim piece in the collection was meticulously crafted by skilled artisans, ensuring exceptional quality that withstands the test of time in both form and fit.
