Macy’s launches new initiatives to support its sustainable goal

Macy’s, Inc. highlights new efforts and announces new collaborations with Better Cotton, Trust for Public Land, and HERproject™ to promote its environmental aims.

The firm is boosting the usage of sustainably produced raw materials and fibers incorporated into the design of Macy’s exclusive brand items through Mission Every One, the company’s social purpose platform — including cotton, synthetic, and all wood-based materials. Macy’s, Inc. joined Better Cotton in April to support its aim of using only preferred materials in its exclusive brands by 2030. Better Cotton is an organization that promotes higher cotton growing standards and techniques. The objective of Better Cotton is to help cotton communities survive and grow while also conserving and repairing the environment. Better Cotton is supplied through a mass balancing mechanism and is not physically traceable to end goods.

Keelin Evans, vice president of sustainability at Macy’s, Inc, said that Macy’s is thrilled to join Better Cotton as they continue to take real measures toward meeting sustainable production targets with their private brands. As they expand on the public commitments established in otheir social purpose platform, they are using critical partnerships like as Better Cotton to assist them achieve their sustainability goals across their value chain.

Through a new relationship with Trust for Public Land, Macy’s and its customers helped communities around the country become more resilient to climate change and empowered youngsters (TPL). Customers at Macy’s may round up their in-store purchases and contribute their change (up to $0.99) or donate online at macys.com from April 1-30 to support TPL’s Community Schoolyards™ initiatives. These initiatives help to turn barren public parks into green areas, so contributing to the creation of healthy, living communities for the public. Customers at Macy’s gave over $1.5 million to the charity as a consequence of the campaign.

Sam Di Scipio, Macy’s senior director, corporate communications – giving & volunteerism, said that they’re thrilled to introducel their relationship with Trust for Public Land during Earth Month as Macy’s continues to take strides toward a more sustainable future. A few additional cents contributed at checkout adds up to millions of dollars in funding for programs that improves community and climate resilience.

Macy’s, Inc. is teaming with Business for Social Responsibility’s (BSR) HERproject™ to empower women to enhance the health, well-being, confidence, and economic potential of women working in our factories worldwide.

Macy’s announced a relationship with the Give Back Box, which is focused on circularity solutions to assist reduce, reuse, and repurpose materials to eliminate waste. From now through June, Macy’s allows consumers to repurpose Macy’s shipping boxes to donate and discard outdated items for free.

A well-established program regulating the manufacture of Macy’s private brand merchandise guarantees that labor and environmental criteria are followed, as well as ensuring suppliers adhere to those norms. Macy’s established a sitelet on macys.com last year that includes goods that have been certified to a third-party sustainability criteria. The sitelet features Macy’s brand home, clothes, and accessories.
