LVMH partners with Origin Materials to develop carbon-negative materials

Origin Materials, Inc., the world’s largest carbon-negative materials firm, has announced a multi-year strategic agreement with LVMH Beauty, a branch of LVMH Mot Hennessy Louis Vuitton.

For its fragrance and cosmetics packaging, LVMH Beauty will purchase sustainable, carbon-negative PET (polyethylene terephthalate) materials from Origin Materials.

PET generated with Origin technology is functionally comparable to petroleum-based PET, but it has a significantly smaller carbon impact because it is made from carbon-capturing sustainable wood wastes. Furthermore, within the current infrastructure, Origin PET is as recyclable as fossil-based PET, which is critical for achieving a circular economy with a substantially lower carbon impact.

Claude Martinez, executive president and managing director at LVMH Beauty, said that at LVMH, with their Life 360 concept, they made the decision that their packaging will use zero plastic from virgin fossil resources in the near future. Origin’s bioplastic solutions are critical in assisting LVMH in meeting its environmental goals without sacrificing quality. LVMH Beauty is excited to work with Origin and promote its unique technology.

LVMH Beauty will collaborate with Origin on sustainable packaging solutions for its brands, which include Parfums Christian Dior, Parfums Givenchy, and Guerlain.

Rich Riley, co-chief executive of Origin Materials, added that LVMH is a powerhouse of premium brands, with a high level of excellence for the environmental performance of its goods. Their mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable materials is perfectly in line with LVMH’s lofty environmental goals. They look forward to assisting LVMH in reducing its carbon footprint and achieving its sustainability objectives while continuing to provide great client experiences.
