Lululemon Athletica also launched an Earth Day capsule collection made of low-impact dyes upcycled from waste from the agriculture and herbal sectors, including oranges, beets, and saw palmetto trees.
According to the brand, the collection uses less water, carbon, and chemicals than traditional synthetic dyes, which aligns with the company’s mission of reducing its environmental footprint.
Lululemon has also introduced the ‘Like New’ re-commerce program, which encourages shoppers to trade in gently used goods and clothing in return for an e-gift card from the company. The clothes will then be sold on an online resale website, with all proceeds going toward more sustainable projects such as circular product design, renew and recycle programs, and store environmental programs.
Calvin McDonald, Lululemon CEO, said that Lululemon is working hard to help build a better world, and they’re on track to achieve the targets outlined in their Impact Agenda, which includes manufacturing 100% of their garments out of recycled fabrics and providing end-of-life solutions by 2030.
He adds that their Lululemon ‘Like New’ and Earth Dye projects are both important strides toward a circular economy and highlight the environmental progress in product development and retail that is taking place.
