LSJH begins pilot line for post-consumer textile recycling

Lounais-Suomen Jätehuolto (LSJH) in Paimio, Finland, has successfully launched a new Andritz pilot line for post-consumer textile recycling research and development.

The Exel post-consumer textile waste tearing machine can handle up to 500kg per hour of spinning quality fibers and up to a ton per hour of nonwoven fiber quality. Using cleaning machines, very sensitive metal traps, and metal detectors, the entire process is meant to verify that there is no metallic material in the fibers and to eliminate hard, non-textile materials.

LSJH is a municipal waste management firm that specializes in the conversion of post-consumer domestic textiles into a wide range of customized raw materials incorporating high-quality fibers. Because Finland will be the first country in the world to begin nationwide post-consumer textile collection in a few months, the LSJH Paimio recycling plant will be the site where enormous volumes of textile waste will be fed into a sustainable and responsible circular solution.

LSJH process engineer Conny Gabrielsson, said that they’re really thankful to Andritz and its team members for their help during the installation of their pilot line for textile processing. The job was completed on schedule and with excellent professionalism, and the ongoing support is a genuine testament to devotion. Andritz has given them complete equipment that enables them to supply high-quality textile raw material solutions to fulfill the diverse demands of their end-customers today and in the future.
