Libeco, a prominent member of the Alliance for European Flax-Linen and Hemp, has partnered with Notox Surfboards to deliver cutting-edge performance in extreme surf conditions through flax composite reinforcements.
Notox, an eco-conscious surfboard manufacturer based in the Basque Country, has unveiled a groundbreaking line of tow-in surfboards designed for professional big wave surfer Clément Roseyro. These boards are specifically crafted for the 2024/25 Nazaré Big Waves Challenge in Portugal, where surfers face colossal waves exceeding 15 meters.
The boards integrate a unique combination of sustainable materials, including Libeco’s flax fibre woven reinforcements, upcycled carbon fibre from Airbus, greenPoxy 56 bio-resin from Sicomin, and agave-based foam cores.
Built to withstand extreme forces, the boards are heavier and sturdier than conventional surfboards, featuring denser foam cores and reinforced stringers for stability, strength, and momentum in Nazaré's intense surf conditions.
“This new line of tow-in boards represents the pinnacle of high-performance composite technology and sustainable innovation,” said Pierre Pomiers, CEO of Notox. "Master shaper Benoit Rameix and artist Luc Rolland have collaborated to craft boards that are not only safe but also environmentally conscious for Clément’s ride through Nazaré’s waves."
