Levi Strauss & Co. becomes a member of Fashion for Good

Levi Strauss & Co. has long been a leader in the environmentally friendly design and manufacturing. Many of the most well-known projects – WaterLess®, Screened Chemistry, cottonized hemp – were developed in-house. They’re proud of our track record of scaling internal technologies.

But they still recognize that they can’t do it alone if they want to contribute to industry-wide solutions or meet the lofty expectations they’ve set for themselves. There are networks they can join, technologies they can take advantage of, and solutions they can help grow. That is why they have decided to join Fashion for Good.

Fashion for Good is an accelerator and scaling program for sustainable and circular apparel creativity funded by members and brands. Their goal at Fashion for Good is to bring the whole fashion world together through their Innovation Platform and to serve as a convener for change.

Joining Fashion for Good would enable Levi to collaborate alongside innovators that focus on sparking and scaling ideas and business models that have the most potential to change the market, allowing us to make many further strides toward our sustainability goals.

The Managing Director of Fashion for Good, Katrin Ley said that they’re thrilled to have Levis as a business partner, and they’re looking forward to working with them to help them execute and achieve their goals for social progress in the apparel industry. He added that Levi Strauss & Co. has a strong commitment to sustainability and creativity, as shown by their pioneering of a variety of innovative technologies across their supply chain, including raw materials, dyeing, finishing, and circularity.

LS&Co.’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Jeffrey Hogue said that they are proud to be a part of Fashion for Good because it is the industry’s only circular production forum based on principles of collaboration and scale. He adds that Fashion for Good is unique in that it is supported by extensive knowledge of the clothing and fashion industry’s sustainability and circularity. This would complement the capabilities of their  Wellthread™ and technological advancement initiatives, allowing them to scale innovative technologies through their entire product assortment and supply chain.

Hogue said that they want to use Fashion for Good’s experience and network to develop pilots that will solve the most urgent sustainability challenges facing their value chain. They’ll also concentrate on joint initiatives that resolve plastics issues, sorting systems for recycled fabrics, fiber transparency and traceability, and the possibility of switching from wet to dry fabric and clothing finishing processes. In the short term, they want to increase circular creativity in their goods and build a more resource-efficient, sustainable company. This partnership is critical to them achieving their long-term sustainability targets and realizing their vision of having a massive positive effect on the fashion industry and the environment.
