Austrian fiber manufacturer, Lenzing, will present its new Young Scientist Award for outstanding research in the field of fibers and textiles for the first time in 2022.
The Dornbirn Global Fiber Congress (GFC Dornbirn) will serve as the platform for this, taking place from September 14th to 16th, 2022. There, bachelor’s and master’s degree students will have the opportunity to present their scientific work to a jury of well-known industry professionals in the categories of fashion and circular economy, textile recycling, and innovative usage of bio-based fibers.
The jury consists of Friedericke von Wedel-Parlow of the Beneficial Design Institute Berlin, Karla Magruder, founder of Acceleration Circularity, and Dieter Eichinger, head of standardization and innovation and secretary-general of BISFA.
The winning project will be awarded 5,000 euros. The goal is to showcase the students’ work and develop a networking platform with the textile and fiber industry.
Between the 1st of February and the 15th of June 2022, applicants for the Young Scientist Award can submit their English-language work – final-year projects, articles, and so on – to Lenzing.
Robert van de Kerkhof, member of the managing board at the Lenzing Group and president of the Austrian Fibers Institute, said that as a long-standing developer in enhancing fibers and wovens, Lenzing is uniquely positioned to make a genuine difference and contribute to a more sustainable future. Advancing research and development and assisting young scientists in developing their ideas is not merely an issue near to their hearts. They are certain that innovation and technological progress are critical to their success in addressing the serious environmental concerns they confront.
