Lenzing Group invests €100 million for sustainable fiber production

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2023-09-01 17:03:15 – Indonesia

Lenzing Group has spent over €100 million on upgrading its PT South Pacific viscose plant in Purwakarta, Indonesia, since 2021. They've made significant technical improvements, including converting production capacity to speciality viscose.

With this upgrade, Lenzing can better meet the increasing demand for speciality fibers. They're also seeking Ecolabel standard certification, allowing them to supply a range of eco-friendly fibers under their Ecovero and Veocel brands from this plant.

Additionally, Lenzing is actively reducing emissions at the site. They're switching to renewable grid electricity and biomass, aligning with their goals of reducing carbon emissions per product ton by 50% by 2030 and achieving carbon-neutral production by 2050.

Lenzing's CEO, Stephan Sielaff, noted the growing demand for environmentally friendly fibers, especially in Asia. These investments in Indonesia and other Lenzing sites worldwide position them to meet this demand while continuing to work on making their industry more sustainable and promoting a circular textile business model.
