Launch of a sustainable design competition by Westfield London

A sustainable design competition for promoting local talent is being launched by Westfield London in a collaboration with the Royal College of Art.

The competition is named ‘Future Fashion’ is looking to find emerging creatives in London who are prioritizing sustainability. They will be featured in an exhibition celebrating sustainable fashion and design in the shopping center later in the summer.

The competition is open for London creatives who work across fields like illustration, textiles, and jewelry to submit design plans of their proposed work. The judging panel will include renowned people from John Lewis and Partners, Royal College of Art, Emily Carter London, Save Your Wardrobe, and Love not Landfill.

Westfield London said that the judges are looking for submissions that use sustainable materials, ethical fabrics, and fair trade products while promoting and encouraging sustainable consumption. The submissions should also encourage consumers to purchase from a sustainable supply-chain and promote the upcycling of clothing.

The judging panel will be selecting 6 finalists among which each will receive 2,000 pounds for completion of their proposed works.

In August 2021, the finished pieces will also be showcased in Westfield London’s 8 exhibition windows, which are located on Silver Walk. all the 6 different artistic media – sculpture, graphic design, painting, photography, textiles, and jewelry will be showcased in each window.

Marketing director the UK and creative, media, events, and brand – Europe at URW, Harita Shah said that they felt proud to launch this competition- Future Fashion which will help in discovering creative talent in their London community. They are passionate to nurture talents from their local area and support their shared passion for sustainability in fashion as part of their wider Community Resilience Programme.

They strive to educate and entertain their visitors at Westfield London and we will be bringing fantastic creatives into their center through this competition. She is looking forward to reviewing the entries and ultimately viewing the winning work showcased for everyone to enjoy and learn from.Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield’s UK community resilience program is a 5-year action plan that consolidates all the company’s work in its communities aligned to URW’s global ‘Better Places 2030’ strategy and Future Fashion is the first of the projects attached to this program. The last day for application submission is April 12 and can be sent by email to ukwlcommunity@urw.com. The 6 finalists will be announced on May 3, who have to submit their final designs by July 21, ahead of the exhibition in August.
