Netherlands-based denim brand, Kings of Indigo, has teamed up with Turkey-based denim mill, Calik Denim, to produce the industry's first traceable denim collection, based on blockchain technology.
The Aware tracer and blockchain technology are used in the KOI x Calik Denim x Aware traceable denim collection, which is intended to allow consumers to track denim all the way from crop to wardrobe.
Kings of Indigo claims to be the first denim company to employ blockchain technology to provide "real proof of environmentally acceptable fabrics."
The collection includes 14 distinct styles for men and women, all of which are made from Calik Denim materials.
Every garment is given a unique fingerprint by the Aware technology, which can be read out with an easy-to-use scanner for authentication to track the fabric's composition, color, weight, and original certification.
According to a statement on the company's website, the line also includes Calik Denim's Denethic technology, which was specifically engineered to achieve dark (rinse), mid (enzyme), and light (bleaching) looking materials. During the laundry process, the aim is to save water, energy, chemicals, and time.
