Manufacturer of viscose fiber Kelheim Fibres has praised the new EU rule on supply chains free of deforestation, which was adopted at the end of 2022.
The new regulations are designed to stop products from entering the EU market that contributes to forest degradation or deforestation.
The EU, one of the world's greatest economies, is a huge user of wood-based raw resources, and the new rule will greatly help to both protect vulnerable forest regions and reduce forest degradation.
Craig Barker, CEO of Kelheim Fibres, said that wood is a highly valuable and adaptable renewable resource and the foundation for numerous goods. Their viscose fibers are just one example; they provide a natural substitute for synthetic materials in a variety of applications and are an exciting new material. This only holds true, of course, if the resources of our planet's natural forests are not sacrificed in the process of producing our basic materials. These woods must be safeguarded at all costs since they are a vital source of biodiversity and climate protection for the entire globe. No one can avoid this obligation.
Kelheim Fibres has won the top spot in the HotButton rating three times in a row and has been using only FSC or PEFC-certified pulps from sustainably managed sources for many years. The Canadian NGO Canopy, which works to protect historic and endangered forests, compiles this ranking every year.
