Kelheim Fibres receives dark green/green shirt in Canpoy’s hot button report

The environmental NGO Canopy published its annual “Hot Button Report” on November 9, 2022, and Kelheim Fibres once again took first place with a dark green/green shirt. The company also managed to increase its overall ranking by 1.5 points from the year before.

The Hot Button Report thus affirms the maker of viscose specialty fiber’s leadership position in preserving ancient and endangered forests. For instance, Kelheim Fibres has once more raised the amount of FSC®-certified pulp in its production and demonstrated through an audit that there is little chance that any materials will come from Ancient and Endangered Forests. Credit was also given for the development of low-impact Next and the strong public support of Canopy’s work.

In terms of openness and chemical management, the Bavarians come out on top. Kelheim Fibres supports the non-profit organization ZDHC’s mission to totally eliminate dangerous chemicals from the textile value chain as a member. In addition, Kelheim Fibres is the only producer of viscose fibers in the world with an EMAS validation that consistently publishes all pertinent environmental data.

Matthew North, Commercial Director at Kelheim Fibres, said they’re happy to have improved again in the Hot Button Report and to hold their own as a relatively modest viscose fiber maker amid much larger firms. Their fibers are a more sustainable alternative to synthetic materials, but this is only feasible when they also uphold the environmental philosophy in their daily operations.
