Kelheim Fibres and Gebr. Otto unveil sustainable period underwear

At the upcoming Techtextil event in Frankfurt in April 2024, Kelheim Fibres and Gebr. Otto will introduce their collaborative concept for eco-friendly and high-performance period underwear. Displaying their innovation, the companies will showcase period underwear made from biobased materials, offering superior performance.

By combining Kelheim’s specialty fibres with Otto’s tailored yarn types, the partners have developed a prototype that surpasses conventional solutions in liquid absorption speed, capacity, and rewet values. Andreas Merkel, Managing Director of Gebr. Otto, explains that they customize yarn blends based on Kelheim’s requirements and test results, ensuring prompt supply for short-term requests from lingerie brands.

The collaboration between Kelheim Fibres and Gebr. Otto represents a significant step towards sustainable period underwear. Leveraging advanced technology and Kelheim’s biobased viscose fibres, the partnership offers an environmentally friendly solution. Dr. Marina Crnoja-Cosic, Director of New Business Development at Kelheim Fibres, highlights the importance of short supply chains in promoting transparency and efficiency for a sustainable future.
