Karl Lagerfeld x Amber Valletta debuts sustainable accessories collection

Karl Lagerfeld, the French fashion house, has launched its first sustainable accessories partnership with supermodel, actress, and activist Amber Valletta for spring 2021, as well as an announcement that the collaboration will be expanded for spring/summer 2022.

The environmentally conscious collection is available for sale online from April 8, which includes a limited-edition K/Kushion bag made from vegan cactus leather.

About the partnership, Amber Valletta says that to see it all come to life is a tremendous accomplishment and honor, and she is sure that Karl would have enjoyed it. She is honored to be able to carry on his legacy, which is chic, brave, and forward-thinking. She adds that it was fascinating to see how closely the Karl Lagerfeld brand investigates environmentally friendly processes and fabrics. They continue to inspire her with their understanding of architecture and contribution to manufacturing in a modern and aware manner.

The K/Kushion, the collection’s centerpiece, was inspired by a custom-made cushion brought by Karl Lagerfeld on his journeys, and he recreated the silhouette with a voluminous effect and a pillowy soft touch. Valletta has collaborated on two styles, all of which are made from eco-friendly fabrics.

Desserto in Mexico engineered the first, which is made of vegan cactus leather, an environmentally friendly and recyclable fiber. Since no irrigation is needed, the plant-based, organic carbon content saves a lot of water. It’s also grown without the use of pesticides or herbicides. The bags have also been colored with organic pigments, with a pleated finish on the green option and a smooth, streamlined exterior on the black option.

The second K/Kushion style is made of 90% recycled cotton and comes in a neutral sandy color. The Global Recycle Standard (GRS), an organization that sets standards for third-party accreditation of recycled materials, has accredited the fabric. The bag is then finished with a quilted signature stitching effect and a decorative cord detail, all of which are crafted from GRS-certified recycled cotton.

All proceeds from the selling of the Karl Lagerfeld x Amber Valletta K/Kushion bag will be donated to The Ocean Cleanup, a non-profit organization dedicated to removing waste from the world’s oceans.

A reusable water bottle, zip pocket, cardholder, face mask, and washbag are among the small accessories included in the eleven-piece capsule line, which Valletta hand-picked. The prices vary between 49 and 395 euros.
