Jamdani Exhibition 2016’ organized by Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) began at Bangladesh National Museum in the capital on Sunday. Industries minister Amir Hossain Amu inaugurated the show.
State minister for textiles and jute Mirza Azam, senior secretary of the industries ministry Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan and cultural affairs secretary Aktari Momtaj were present at the inaugural ceremony with BSCIC chairman Hazrat Ali in the chair.
In his speech, Amu underscored the need for proper patronzation to protect Jamdani, which is on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
It represents the classical status of Bangladesh in the global market. So this type of exhibition should be organized in the big cities outside Dhaka, too, he said.
Jamdani Palli (village) and research centre has been set up in Tarabo of Narayanganj to revive the old glory of Dhakai Jamdani. A haat corner has also been there to directly sell products to customers.
Jamdani exhibition will run for ten days till 28 June 2016.
