The eighth edition of the International Conference on Wild Silk Moths kicked off on 22nd January in Guwahati where delegates from 15 countries are participating in the three day event to share knowledge on improving wild silk production and quality globaly.
Minister of State for Textiles Ajay Tamta and Assam Handloom Minister Ranjit Dutta inauguarated the function yesterday. Union Minister of State for Textiles Ajay Tamta said that the Centre has taken slew of measures for the development of silk and textile sector.
Around 110 districts of North East are silk producers and hoped that the conference would help in increasing income of the people of the region who are involved with silk industry.
Tamta said that the steps taken by Textiles ministry in the last 4 years have helped in increase of export.
Assam Handloom and Textile minister Ranjit Dutta said that Assam produces 99 percent of country's total Muga.
India is hosting the event for the second time with an aim to explore latest research and development. Guwahati has been chosen as the venue as North East is the hub of wild silk moth in the country.
