INNOVERA shines in Karmuel Young’s convertible design

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2025-04-04 11:48:44 – Hong Kong

Sustainable material innovator Modern Meadow proudly announced that Karmuel Young, founder of the eponymous Hong Kong-based menswear label, integrated the company’s INNOVERA biomaterial into his submission for the 2025 Sustasia Fashion Prize.

Young’s submission—a four-in-one convertible jumpsuit that transforms into a long coat, short jacket, or pants, showcased INNOVERA in camel suede, highlighting both functionality and eco-conscious design. His aim was to offer men a timeless, versatile, and sustainable wardrobe staple that aligns with modern aesthetics and ethical values.

Formerly known as BIO-VERA, INNOVERA is a biofabricated material that replicates the luxurious look and feel of leather using plant-based proteins, biopolymers, and recycled rubber. With over 80% renewable carbon content, it is 25% lighter and twice as strong as conventional leather alternatives. Its customizability in color, texture, and finish makes it a go-to for forward-thinking designers.

“INNOVERA has the smell, look and feel of luxury and held its form well across my stitching and buttons,” said Young. “This is my first convertible look, and it will give men more options to style their wardrobes in a timeless, sustainable way.”

Dr. David Williamson, CEO of Modern Meadow, commented, “We are honored that Karmuel Young chose our INNOVERA biomaterial to spotlight how innovative materials can elevate sustainable fashion.”
