Indian Textiles Minister Smriti Irani speaking at the Indo-Bangladesh Multi Sectorial Cooperation International Conference emphasized on the need to increase business cooperation between the two countries, India and Bangladesh.
Both the countries can have business collaborate in sectors like textiles, jute and fabrics to promote trade and investments and to explore global markets.
Irani also talked about promoting textiles tourism and modernizing infrastructure at borders to promote border haats.
Regarding India imposing anti dumping duty on imports of jute from Bangladesh, she said that dumping of the commodity has impacted the livelihood of farmers, lower income workers and the Indian jute industry.
However, the minister suggested that Bangladeshi companies that are leaders in jute diversification can cooperate with Indian jute industry and possibly explore "the world market". Similarly, firms of both the sides can join hands in the fabric sector.
Both sides can also work on the issues of standards and non tariff barriers and jointly address them.
