India to provide all necessary support in developing Afghani textile industry

The government of India has agreed to provide all necessary assistance to develop Afghan textile industry and assist in skill development, research and development, technical collaboration in product development and manufacturing, testing and certification and organize joint trade missions for mutual collaboration.

The commitment was made at the time of signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Commerce and Industries of Afghanistan and Indian Ministry of Textiles on Wednesday.

An MoU was signed between the acting Minister of Commerce and Industries, Muzamil Shenwari and Indian Ambassador to Afghanistan, Amar Sinha which will focus on expansion of business and cooperation in the field of textiles and clothing.

As per MoU, both sides have agreed to cooperate in developing closer economic relations and bilateral cooperation in the field of textiles, clothing, cotton, man-made fibre and handlooms.

Signing of this MoU is a good beginning for both the countires. India has assured all cooperation to develop the Afghani textile industry and will continue its support in Afghanistan’s economic development.

Afghanistan has huge potential for development of textile industry since the country is gifted with very rich quality of cotton, silk and cashmere and this sector is a good source for jobs and employment. Thus it becomes extremely important to revive Afghan textile industry for economic development. Cotton can also be an alternate crop to move away from opium cultivation.
