The textile industry in India has good prospects for the economy and employment opportunities. It is an important which has been ignored in the last 10 year. With the Union Ministry of Textiles planning to set up a minimum of 15 textile parks across the country, Santhosh Kumar Gangwar, Minister of State (Independent charge), has asked State governments to send their proposals for setting up textile parks.
Santosh Gangwar at the international conference at VIT University here on Friday said that they have been asking the help of the State governments to improve the textile industry. Also noting that there is plenty of scope in technical textile all over the country, the government has allotted Rs. 400 crore for technical textile in the north east region.
The previous government, in the budget, had announced the setting up of a textile cluster in Tamil Nadu for which they will be visiting there and will be holding talks with officials, he added.
Referring to his recent visit to Tirupur, he said that it is an ideal place for the textile sector and provided good employment.
As much more can be done in this field. The Union Ministry of Textile has urged every State government to participate in the textile park bids.
Mr. Gangwar also emphasized the need to pay attention to primary education in the country. Primary education is important, and there were cases of dropouts in villages after classes V and X.
Infact, in today’s international marketplace the challenges involved with sustaining a competitive sector like textile are greater than any other consumer products. There is a need to improve the quality of various facets of textile education.
The challenging environment in 21st century demands that textile education should be meaningful and responsive to develop a mechanism to produce dynamic and technically competitive human resource in order to meet the challenges of the global world. Right and effective strategies needs to be adopted for affecting quality improvements in textile education thereby making it relevant and useful not only for the sustained growth and development of the textile institutes but also in serving the societies in a progressive way.
