Indian textile and apparels exports in the first six months of the current financial year 2013-14 as per the latest data revealed by RBI earned nearly 15 billion dollars (around Rs 92,926 crores). Of the total 14.935 billion dollars exports, textile and garments contributed about Rs 92,358 crores during the first half of the current fiscal year, with readymade garments accounting for 7.074 billion dollars (Rs 43,745 crores) of the same.
Cotton yarn, fabrics, made-ups, etc, contributed 4.236 billion dollars (Rs 26,195 crores) to the nation’s foreign exchange, while man-made yarn, fabrics, made-ups, etc, fetched 2.431 billion dollars (Rs 15,033 crores) during the six-month period.
Natural silk yarn, fabrics, made-ups, etc. accounted for 79.3 million dollars (Rs 490 crores), whereas woolen yarn, fabrics, made-ups, etc, brought 51.8 million dollars (Rs 320 crores). Hand-made carpets, jute and jute goods, and coir and coir item exports from India were worth 507.5 million dollars (Rs 3,138 crores), 181.8 million (Rs 1,124 crores), and 100.5 million dollars (Rs 622.6 crores), respectively.
India also exported man-made staple fibres valued at 272 million dollars (Rs 1,682 crores) during April-September 2013 period. During the same period, India’s textile yarn and fabric imports stood at 2.05 billion (Rs 12,699 crores), the RBI data showed.
In 2012-13, India’s total textiles and clothing exports were worth 27.363 billion dollars (Rs 1,69,212 crores), with the readymade garments sector contributing 12.928 billion dollars (Rs 79,946 crores).
During 2012-13, the textiles and garments accounted for around nine percent of India’s overall export earnings of 300 billion dollars (Rs 18,58,530 crores).
