The Hon’ble Minister of Textiles, in collaboration with Invest India, recently convened a key meeting with senior officials from Uniqlo, underscoring their shared commitment to advancing India’s textile sector. Following earlier discussions with the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Uniqlo reaffirmed its interest in collaborating to enhance India’s cotton production capabilities, productivity, and quality.
As the world’s largest cotton producer, India provides an ideal foundation for Uniqlo’s pilot project. The initiative, which aligns with India’s use of high-density quality seeds in Akola, has achieved productivity levels of up to 1,000 kg/hectare. The Ministry has committed to supporting Uniqlo’s request for land to scale this initiative, reinforcing efforts to make India a global hub for high-quality cotton.
Uniqlo’s participation in the upcoming “Bharat Tex” Global Textile Expo in February will further showcase its commitment to sustainability, innovation, and traceability. The Ministry has also encouraged Uniqlo to expand its R&D efforts into new natural fibers, such as milkweed fiber, aligning with India’s push toward sustainable practices.
