Hyosung, the world’s largest spandex manufacturer and the first global developer to commercialize bio-based elastane, has received eco-product certification from Standard Global Services (SGS), ensuring that creora bio-based elastane is made from plant-based materials and manufactured in a safe and environmentally friendly environment.
SGS, a premier inspection and verification business, is known around the world for setting an international standard for quality and dependability.
Creora bio-based elastane from Hyosung is created by substituting 30% of petroleum-based resources with bio-based raw materials obtained from industrial field corn, also known as dent corn. According to a recent third-party life cycle assessment (LCA), the manufacturing of creora bio-based elastane decreases its carbon footprint by 23% when compared to standard elastane production.
Furthermore, the feedstock used to create the fiber is cultivated responsibly by farmers who aim and assess their efforts to safeguard the land, air, and water.
Mike Simko, Hyosung Global Marketing Director Textiles, said that brands are striving to build deeper ties and trust with consumers who are worried about the environmental effect of the items they love. As a developer of sustainable textile solutions, it was critical for them to verify and record creora® bio-based elastane so that thei brand partners could pass this certification forward and maintain customer loyalty.
Creora bio-based elastane is suited for all textile applications used for sportswear, ready-to-wear, and loungewear, and is best paired with other bio-derived natural fibers and bio-derived synthetics. It has the same ultra-stretch and recovery properties as Hyosung’s creora Powerfit elastane.
Hyosung plans to introduce creora bio-based elastane with 100 percent bio-derived content in the future, according to Simko.
