House of Baukje
Sustainably and ethically conscious online womenswear and maternity wear brands Baukjen and Isabella Oliver, collectively known as House of Baukjen, have been named a winner of a 2021 UN Global Climate Action Award.
The United Nations Climate Change yearly awards highlight innovative, scalable, and replicable examples of how individuals and businesses are tackling climate change.
The UN has recognized the House of Baukjen, together with Microsoft, Taylors of Harrogate, and ICA Gruppen, in the ‘Climate Neutral Now’ category. The London-based design firm was praised for its efforts to implement a circular business model with a zero-waste approach and for being a carbon-negative circular leader in the fashion sector.
House of Baukjen achieved carbon neutrality across its entire supply chain by 2020, and it continues to collaborate with suppliers to help them become more sustainable by addressing inefficiencies and moving to 100% renewable energy. The fashion house is also the UK’s highest-scoring certified fashion B Corp, and it just developed a Sustainability Index, which shares environmental and social impact scores for each product in its collections to assist customers to make better purchase decisions.
Patricia Espinosa, UN Climate Change executive secretary, said that the winners of the 2021 UN Global Climate Action Awards provide clear proof that solutions to address the climate issue exist and that they can be duplicated and quickly scaled up. This is what it looks like to be a leader who inspires others.
Geoff Van Sonsbeeck, chief executive and co-founder of House of Baukjen, said that they’re extremely proud to have earned this great award and to be recognized as an industry leader in sustainability. They utilize their business to do good, and they want to encourage other businesses to follow their path and join them in combating climate change. The honor belongs to the company, its staff, and its manufacturers, who have worked tirelessly to analyze and eliminate emissions at every stage of the manufacturing process.
