AQUA, an Indonesian drinking water brand and the Swedish fashion house H&M has launched an initiative to make a collection for children from recycled plastic bottles.
The collection ‘Clean-up for the future’ will be sold at H&M retail and online stores around the world. In Indonesia the collection will be available in 12 H&M stores in Jakarta and Bali.
The initiative dates back to 2017 with the establishment of Marine Plastic Solutions Forum (AMPS) which was the office of coordination among the minister of affairs. It aims to decrease the rain waste by 70% by 2025 and plastic waste to zero by 2040.
Danone Indonesia senior sustainable packaging manager Ratih Anggraeni stated that through the initiative built with H&M, Danone-Aqua has collected 129 tons of used plastic bottles from the shores of Jakarta and Thousand Islands. The plastic bottles were converted into polyester fibre which was used by the brand in a variety of its products.
According to the plastic ocean’s survey over 8 million tons of plastic is dumped into the ocean every year. It estimates that there will be more plastic than fish in the sea by 2050.
