Hainsworth, one of Britain's most respected and innovative woollen textile mills in the Farsley area has of the first time collaborated with award-winning furniture designer Mark Gabbertas to create an exciting new exhibition of furniture and fabric. It has used its famous fabrics for contract upholstery.
The pieces will be showcased at an exhibition called ‘Fabricate: Of Furniture and Fabric’ in the Brompton Design District at The London Design Festival later this month (23-26 September). The London Design Festival is a fantastic showcase for the best of British design.
Yorkshire-born Mark Gabbertas, who established The Gabbertas Studio in 2001, is renowned for his experimental approach to new technologies and recently received his 13th Design Guild Mark.
Mark has used a number of the mill’s fabrics in his designs which have all been used to rework and reinterpret a selection of Gabbertas’ new, recent and favourite designs. The exhibition will include three armchairs, five office chairs, an upholstered bench and a coffee table.

Mark Gabbertas, commenting on the collaborative furniture venture said that their objective was to create a collection with a new perspective through the use of Hainsworth’s beautiful British fabrics. They were really impressed with the flow and spectrum of colours to work with.

The London Design Festival is an annual event held to celebrate and promote London as the design capital of the world and as the gateway to the international creative community. The exhibition will be held in the Brompton Design District at The Sampler, 35 Thurloe Place, South Kensington, London SW7 2HP. The festival will run from 19 to 27th September and it is a free event.
