A textile park of 6 acres will be constructed in the Greenville County of South Carolina,U.S.A. Designed by Arbor Engineering, the park plans features walking trails, a children’s playground, community garden and a Textile Museum designed to look like a 1930’s-era mill house.
The Greenville Revitalization Corp., in partnership with the Greenville Textile Heritage Society, has announced plans for the creation of a new park that will celebrate the once-thriving textile history of Greenville County.
Greenville Revitalization Corp. CEO Doug Dent, said that the park will breathe new life into this historic mill neighborhood and introduce a new generation of visitors to the industry that put Greenville on the map.
The Greenville Revitalization Corp. is accepting donations to the park in the form of financial or service material contributions, as well as brick and plaque reservations for the Mill Walk.
He added that an outdoor classroom has been donated by Alpha Tree Co. One of the park’s signature features will be a Mill Walk with brick alcoves, each dedicated to a historic mill in Greenville County. Interested visitors could participate by donating a brick or plaque for the Mill Walk.
According to Don Harkins, president of the Greenville Textile Heritage Society, the site was once the centerpiece of the Monaghan community. A century ago, it was known as Central Park and was used for various occasions including band concerts, a baby parade in the spring, and what has been called the largest patriotic parade held in the state.
Park construction is expected to get underway this spring.
