Swaziland government to boost its cotton production assisted farmers through the establishment of a cotton ginnery. The project cotton ginnery seeks to reduce imports of cotton for local textile companies, expand cotton production to meet local demand and develop export markets.
Ministry of Agriculture Under Secretary Bongani Masuku said that the ginnery was for the processing of cotton for local farmers, who served both domestic and export markets. He said the cotton ginnery at Big Bend would provide raw material for the local textile industry, whilst also creating a market for local cotton growers.
The ginnery will enhance cotton production through strong technical partners who would benefit from the available local market.
It will also reduce lead times for companies that source cotton from outside Swaziland and improve the livelihoods of communities in cotton farming areas.
The ginnery is a gateway for local cotton farmers.
