The UK-based clothing retailer, French Connection has partnered with the second-hand clothing platform Thrift+ to launch a take-back scheme that allows customers to give a second life unwanted clothes and get a discount on future purchases.
Customers who shop online at French Connection can now add a Thrift+ bag to their cart and use it to return unwanted items. Thrift+ shoppers are especially interested in clothing, shoes, and accessories from luxury and designer brands.
Fashion lines from lower-end high-street labels are often approved as part of the take-back service, but they must be in new or excellent condition according to Thrift+, as they are more difficult to resell. The take-back service does not allow items like socks, swimwear, or children's or baby clothes.
Thrift+ is an online retailer that will list the goods it collects before contributing 33% of the selling proceeds to the customer's preferred charity. Those who use the take-back service will get a voucher to use on the Thrift+ website as well as a 10% discount on their next French Connection online purchase.
At this time, the French Link x Thrift+ takeback scheme is only available in the United Kingdom, although the retailer said it is finding ways to extend what it calls its "circular apparel campaign" internationally.
Thrift+ is continuing to form relationships with UK stores, most recently announcing a take-back agreement with Fenwick, a department store chain.
