First international silk festival to be held this month in Vietnam

Vietnam’s Hoi An City to host the Vietnam-Asia Silk Culture Festival 2016, organized by Hoi An Silk Village, will center around the theme “Bring traditional silk back to the modern lifestyle,” and welcomes silk artisans, designers, and businesses from China, Italy, Thailand, India, Japan, Myanmar, and more.

Over 70 delegates from nine countries will be participating from March 28 to 29 in Vietnam-Asia Silk Culture festival.

The agenda of the festival includes activities such as the thurification for the Queen of Silk, introducing and performing traditional silk weaving techniques of the Tan Chau silk village which was once famous for its My A brand, Cham ancient weaving patterns for wedding ceremonies, Katu traditional brocade weaving, and more.

There will also be an exhibition of modern silk products from mature silk crafting villages in Vietnam, and visitors will be taken on a tour to observe the reeling and weaving process in Hoi An Silk Village.

A conference on the topic of “Silk in the modern lifestyle” is also included in the main agenda.

On the opening night on March 28, a fashion show will take place at Hoi An Silk Village with the participation of established young designers in Vietnam’s fashion industry such as Dinh Bach Dat and Eric Nguyen introducing silk collections using traditional Vietnamese worm silk as the primary material.

Hoi An Silk Village is one of the founding members of the International Silk Union and the Asia Silk Alliance.

Apart from honoring the cultural values of the silk craftsmanship and expanding cooperative relations with the international market, the festival also aims to promote Hoi An, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to international friends and integrate the “world’s tailor city through tourists” model service.
