In order to unveil a survey of the entire European fashion industry that would produce a report on the state of fashion in the region, the European Fashion Alliance (EFA) organized its first political fashion round table in Brussels. The European Fashion Alliance will present its report and position on sustainability and the regulatory framework at its conference in Brussels at the end of 2023.

Thierry Breton, EU Commissioner for the Internal Market, and Dr. Christian Ehler, a member of the European Parliament, launched the political round table by stating that if there is one sector that is significantly dependent on supply chains, "it is the one of fashion."

The European Fashion Alliance prioritizes creativity because it understands that it is what fuels the industry's capacity for innovation. The Alliance strives to elevate European fashion on a social and political level as a source for solutions by promoting an atmosphere that presents and promotes creativity.

The European Fashion Alliance acknowledges and supports the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation and urges for the adoption of realistic yet ambitious eco-design requirements that take into account the special characteristics of fashion items that are driven by creativity. In this regard, EFA members have specifically addressed the issue of product durability, a crucial component of sustainability that must be taken into account in a more comprehensive and, of course, quantifiable way, with both its intrinsic and extrinsic characteristics, and should not be limited to functional robustness.

EFA is in favor of providing customers with information that is timely, accurate, and dependable as well as the digitalization of that information as called for by the Digital Product Passport. EFA, however, strongly cautions against any measure that would impose excessive administrative and technological constraints on enterprises, especially SME's, and would ignore, in particular, the difficulties associated with the lengthy and multifaceted supply chain for textiles.

At the round table, the European Fashion Alliance also unveiled its first European poll, titled "Status of European Fashion." Based on the poll, an industry report will be given in the autumn of 2023 at the next EFA Conference, to which EU policymakers and decision-makers from the European fashion sector will be invited.
