Epic Group wins Walmart Sustainability Award

Epic Group has been named the ‘Best Supplier for Sustainability,’ in recognition of the company’s ongoing investment in environmentally friendly manufacturing. Epic Group was picked for this honor from Walmart’s worldwide supply chain, which includes prominent consumer brands, demonstrating that the company’s concept, ‘Relentless pursuit of better,’ is being implemented.

Walmart Inc. recognizes which of its suppliers is having the greatest impact by leaving the least environmental impact each year and applauds its assistance in helping Walmart achieve its own sustainability goals, according to a press release.

This year’s winner was Epic Group, which makes low-water denim jeans for Walmart and uses 60% less water in the fabric dyeing, finishing, and laundering processes than traditional methods.

Vidhura Ralapanawe, Epic Group’s head of sustainability, said that they’re delighted to receive this honor, and even more ecstatic to be the launch partner for Walmart’s sustainability line. They now have 4.8 million clothes made from sustainable fibers such as organic cotton, recycled polyester, and sustainable manmade cellulose fibers.

Epic Group’s Higg Index score, on the other hand, is on track to reach 75 by 2023, with a current average score of 63. From their 2017 baseline, the group has reduced carbon intensity by 14.7 percent and reduced water intensity by 15.3 percent.

Sunil Daryanani and Dinesh Virwani, Epic Group’s joint CEOs., said that they intend to reduce our water intensity figure this year with their enhanced effluent treatment system, which reuses 30-50 percent of the manufacturing water.

In addition, the number of potentially hazardous substances utilized in operations has been reduced from 77 to 5. To minimize overall emissions, Epic Group is also investing in rooftop solar systems on their plants. Epic Group’s own upstream supply chain is also closely monitored through the Sustainable Apparel Coalition’s Higg Facility Environmental Module (FEM) assessment, and the company collaborates with its supply chain and partners to improve its environmental performance, according to the statement.
