Duvaltex and Steelcase launch textile made from ocean waste

The contract textile company, Duvaltex and the office furniture producer, Steelcase have announced the launch of a new textile made from ocean waste. The textile is called intersection and is being offered for office screens and panels through the partnership.

the Ocean Waste Clean Impact Textiles, Intersect has been composed of recycled polyester that includes Seaqual Yarn made from plastic ocean waste. Seaqual is popular for working with fishermen, NGOs and other stakeholders to collect ocean waste that is then categorized, separated and cleaned. The plastic that is collected has been processed and upcycled into the polymer for yarn which is then, made into usable textiles.

Alain Duval, the CEO of Duvaltex, stated that their aim with Clean Impact Textiles was to reduce the environmental impact of textile manufacturing as much as they could. He added that by innovating the way the products are sourced, manufactured and disposed at the end of their useful life. Alain added that Duvaltex has honed extensive expertise to become a leading manufacturer of sustainable textiles for over 20 years.

The Ocean Waste Clean Impact Textiles was the second advanced technology launched under Duvaltex’s Clean Impact Textiles umbrella. The first being its 100% biodegradable textile in 2019. The two companies have been working together for over 25 years.
