Dotte, a secondhand fashion marketplace, has launched the Dotte Resale Collective with leading childrenswear brands to promote circularity and product longevity.
By encouraging more parents to purchase wisely and resell, the new initiative provides childrenswear companies with a full circle solution to become more circular, reduce waste, and eventually lessen the effect of fast fashion by prolonging the lifespan of their clothes.
Tobias and the Bear, Turtledove London, Zig and Star, Another Fox, RaspberryPlum, Indikidual, Kiso, and Mère Soeur are among the first brands to join Dotte Resale Collective, with more to come. Consumers will be directed to resale on Dotte by each brand, and customers who sell pre-loved products will be rewarded with discounts or money off their new stock.
Dotte also provides additional benefits to its community, such as special online pop-up stores with brand partners.
According to Dotte, reselling is the most effective way for customers to reduce their fashion carbon footprint. However, only 5-7% of preloved fashion is currently bought and sold on resale platforms, despite the fact that reselling is the most effective way for customers to reduce their fashion carbon footprint.
Families may avoid up to 75% of the carbon emissions involved with making an article of clothing and up to 79% of the emissions associated with sending an item to landfill just by shopping secondhand.
Amy Powney, Dotte chief sustainability officer, said that brands who remain ahead of the curve, and embrace the potential that resale provides today, will continue to connect with customers and outlive those that do not.
Samantha Valentine and Louise Weiss co-founded Dotte, a website that allows parents to purchase and trade gently used products. Parents can post their things for free on Dotte, with the marketplace receiving a 15% fee for all sales.
