Dimension-Polyant launches sustainable X-Pac VX21

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2024-07-29 08:40:01 – Germany

Dimension-Polyant introduces the X-Pac® VX21 Ocean Edition (OE) for its X-Pac waterproof laminates used in packs and bags. The new X-Pac VX21 OE laminate features a face fabric made from GRS-certified, 100% recycled regen Ocean, sourced from discarded fishing nets.

This fabric is reinforced with Dimension-Polyant’s patented X-PLY fiber, made from 100% post-consumer recycled PET. It also includes a lightweight taffeta backing for better stitch holding, made from the same recycled material. All X-Pac materials, including VX21 OE, are produced in Dimension-Polyant’s carbon-neutral facility.

“X-Pac is known for its strength and durability, so it's vital that all materials meet these standards, recycled or not,” said Taylor North, Head of Technical Fabrics at Dimension-Polyant US. “We’ve been waiting for the right 100% recycled material that fits our durability and sustainability criteria, and regen Ocean nylon met our needs.”

The X-Pac VX21 OE is the first four-layer laminate for packs and bags made with regen Ocean nylon, developed by Hyosung TNC. An independent Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) by Hyosung shows that regen Ocean manufacturing reduces CO2 emissions by 73%, fossil resource use by 76%, and water consumption by 98% compared to traditional nylon.

“We’ve seen great interest in the new laminate and its sustainable background,” North added. “We’re excited to share news about upcoming brand adoptions later this year.”
